Breakthrough combustion technologies of air-fuel mixtures can be developed on the basis of new fundamental knowledge on combustion physics and chemistry, including detailed mechanisms of elementary atomic and molecular processes involved in the formation and destruction of harmful emissions and in the initiation and sustainment of burning in combustion chambers of various types.

Welcome to the division of Combustion Physics at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering. We conduct research and education within the areas of laser-based combustion diagnostics and chemical modeling of combustion phenomena. We are a separate division and are part of the Department of Physics at Lund University. Combustion Physics is since 2001 located in the Enoch Thulin-laboratory at the Physics Department. The general aim of the activity is to increase the basic understanding of combustion processes through experimental as well as theoretical research. The experimental research is directed towards development of laser-based diagnostic methods for Mathematical and chemical models of combustion processes are also being developed and used. The common goal is low fuel consumption and reduced emissions from engines, gas turbines, boilers, power plants, et cetera.
